The castration of animals involves depriving them of their reproductive gonads and thus of the the ability to reproduce. For our pets as well as stray animals, this is important from the point of view of population regulation and consequently the reduction of animal homelessness. Furthermore, castration is also important from a medical point of view, as it prevents many diseases related to the reproductive system. In females, this is mainly hidradenitis suppurativa (purulent inflammation of the uterus) and tumours of the mammary glands.
